Nut Butters

I've always been a huge peanut butter fan. Crunchy, smooth, chocolate, you name it, I'll eat it.  Nuts have fats and other nutrients that are good for you (score!), and make a great snack, but moderation is the key.

I think we all know I struggle with that. I can sit and eat half a jar of peanut butter with a spoon in one sitting. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I recently started branching out from my Jif Extra Crunchy reduced fat kind and started trying Justins Nut Butters, and most recently Sunbutter (also on the list to try is coconut butter).

Let's start with Justin's Nut Butter. Now, I love Nutella. I have the same problem here as with the peanut butter, although if I'm being honest I could probably eat the entire jar at once. But I don't. Promise. Anyway, Justins has a competing version, Chocolate Hazelnut Butter. It's slightly less sweet, it has a grainy texture, but it's all ingredients one can pronouce and I love it. They also have a Chocolate Almond Butter, which I have yet to try.

For those who have portion control issues, they come in sashays with exactly one serving and also snack size, in addition to jars (which may lead to eating with a spoon). I've also tried the peanut butter and maple almond butter, both of which I like. I miss the crunchy factor of the peanut butter though. Target just started stocking these, and they have become a regular on my grocery list.

I bought an entire jar of Sunbutter as I'd heard other bloggers rave about it, so I was hoping it would be awesome. I like sunflower seeds, although it's been awhile since I ate them.

Honestly, I don't think I like Sunbutter that much, which is disappointing because it's such a huge jar. The texture is smoooth and I have no problem with that. I think it's the flavor. I would prefer peanut, almond, chocolate hazlenut, even cashew butter anyday. I've tried it by itself, I tried it on a waffle and I tried it will cut up apple. Now, I'm not sure what I want to do with it. I don't want to throw it away, because it would be a waste. But, if I don't really like it, it'll barely get eaten. It's so rare I don't like something - what a bummer. Never mind, at least I have Justin's!
