Surfing/Paddle Boarding

Back in 2003 my family took a vacation to Hawaii for a week. One of the days we were there my brother and I were packed off in what could have been construed as a shady stranger kidnap van and taken around the island for surfing lessons. We were, luckily, NOT kidnapped and were taught surfing 101.

It was pretty awesome, even if I did lose my goggles and get salt water in my contacts. I was too afraid to stand up though, and just rode into shore on my knees. I'd really like to take another surfing class and I've also developed an interest in trying paddle boarding. And bonus! That's something I can do here in landlocked Dallas.

I keep seeing Groupons and such for paddleboarding and I'm really tempted to give it a try. S wouldn't be able to do it because he can't swim =( I just think it would be fun to get outside and do something active. I even wouldn't mind kayaking, but again S can't swim so I'd either be doing it alone or need a buddy. They have lessons and rentals at Grapevine Lake and just rentals at White Rock Lake.

What I would really like is to get back to Hawaii and take daily surf lessons. I'm sure you can do that in CA, and I wouldn't turn down the opportunity, but Hawaii would be my first choice. Better start saving! This could me be (one day)!

  1. Hubby and I went paddleboarding on Lake Michigan for our anniversary. SO much fun! I totally want to try surfing now. The waves on Lake Michigan are kind of lame (although people do surf them anyway), but if I make my Jeopardy! tryout and get to go to LA, I'm gonna surf the Pacific. Some day before I die, I will learn to stand up on a longboard.
