Mascarapalooza 2012 - Big Fatty by Urban Decay

Mascarapalooza continues! Next up is Big Fatty by Urban Decay.

This is the old vintage tube. If you buy a new tube, it's black with silver design. The old design is on sale on Urban Decay website for $5 while supplies last. The new redesign is $20. 

They've also redesigned the brush with what looks to be sturdier bristles, but it's still a GIANT wand. Giant. The whole brush is the size of my eye. It's kind of hard to maneuver. This is the older brush.

I wanted to like this one. Actually, I wanted to love this one. I'm such a big Urban Decay fan and I really liked their super curling mascara (that is not participating in Mascarapalooza) but this one just didn't do anything for me. Is it bad? No. I just don't think it's a top choice for me.

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent mascara and my lashes look pretty good. It's a pretty good formula - not too thick, didn't clump, applied nicely. 

My eyelashes felt light, fluttery and decently separated, but not as volumized as I would have liked, nor as long or dramatic as I would have liked. I had to apply at least 3 coats to achieve the look above. I think since the wand is so big and fluffy, that's what makes it difficult to achieve the look I want. The new wand may be better (will test that theory in the future).

For a pretty neutral day to day look, this would be a good choice. After using it several times, it did grow on me, so I'll probably hang onto this as a back up.
